Shy Carter

Shy Carter is an American singer-songwriter and producer from Memphis, Tennessee. He is known for his work on songs such as Charlie Puth's "One Call Away" and Kane Brown's "Heaven".[1][2]

On Fujii Kaze's third album Prema, he participated as a co-writer of the English lyrics, and on some tracks also contributed background vocals. He also joined Fujii Kaze's stage at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as a chorus member.[3][4][5]

Biography

Raised in Memphis, he developed a cross-genre musical style shaped by gospel, soul, R&B, hip-hop, and country. In 2011, he moved to Nashville and expanded his career as a songwriter, producer, and artist.[6][7]

As a songwriter, he has been involved in songs such as Charlie Puth's "One Call Away", Rob Thomas's "Someday", Sugarland's "Stuck Like Glue", Tim McGraw & Faith Hill's "Speak to a Girl", Billy Currington's "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To", Keith Urban's "Never Comin' Down", and Kane Brown's "Heaven".[8][9]

In 2020, he signed with Warner Music Nashville. As an artist, he has also released works including the EP The Rest of Us.[10][11]

Relationship with Fujii Kaze

Participation in Prema

On Fujii Kaze's third album Prema, Shy Carter participated in writing the English lyrics for multiple songs. Public credits list him among the lyricists for "Casket Girl", "I Need U Back", "Love Like This", "You", and "Okay, Goodbye".[12][13]

In Apple Music's description of Prema, Fujii Kaze says of "You" that writing the lyrics together with Shy Carter was "a truly beautiful experience".[14]

Public credits also confirm his participation as a background vocalist on tracks such as "I Need U Back" and "Okay, Goodbye". The full credits for Prema indicate that Shy Carter contributed background vocals on multiple tracks.[15][16]

Coachella 2026

In April 2026, Shy Carter joined Fujii Kaze's band for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival under the credit Cho. (chorus). Natalie reported that he accompanied Fujii Kaze alongside ARIWA, Ayatake Ezaki, TAIKING, Osami Kobayashi, and Nobuhide Saji.[17]

Billboard JAPAN's on-site live report also introduced him as one of the chorus members alongside ARIWA, while noting that he was also a co-writer on Prema.[18]
